Drug Action Task Force

Our Drug Action Task Force continues to meet regularly during the year to keep up to date on issues around addictions, gangs, and organized crime in our communities. Leqa:mel held a few rallies “Taking Back our Community”. Other Communities are trying to do things in their communities to make it a safer place for our children and families. Some of us traveled to Lummi to listen to the people talk about the problems there and to find out how they are doing when they have to banish their members from the community.

Much more needs to be done for education, treatment and enforcement.

We maintain a good working relationship with the First Nations Policing Unit. This is to make sure that we know what is happening in some of our communities especially if it is related to drugs. They have a responsibility to try and make all of our communities a safer place. Each Community should have a protocol agreement with them so that each side knows what the other is supposed to be doing.
